Apple fell 3.58% to 185.64 as Barclays moved to Underperform, citing weakening demand for iPhones. Other high-growth stocks, such as Nvidia (- 2.73% to 481.68), Meta Platforms (- 2.17% to 346.29) and Microsoft (-1.37% to 370.87), declined.

The manufacturing sector saw the contraction of its activity accelerate in December, according to S&P Global whose PMI index for the sector stood at 47.9 after 49.4 in November and 48.2 expected.

THE Dow Jones thus gained 0.07% to 37,715.05 points, the Nasdaq Composite lost 1.63% to 14,765.94 points and the S&P 500 0.57% to 4,742.83 points.
