A Nashville mother tried to end her life in prison, where she is serving time for allegedly killing her daughter, because she “had enough of her.”
Brandi Elliot was arrested last month and is in the Sumner County Jail in Tennessee.
She admitted to investigators that she had “a bad day” before the crime. Her seven-year-old daughter would not give her what she wanted, which was time to herself, the Daily Mail.
It was at this point that she ordered her child to remain silent, before plunging her into the water. She held her daughter’s head until she stopped breathing.
Mme Elliot didn’t realize the seriousness of her actions until it was too late. She attempted resuscitation, but the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.
In court Tuesday, the mother explained that she suffered from mental health issues, such as postpartum depression, when her daughter was two years old.
“I had lost my mind, like this time,” she said.
Her lawyer and state prosecutors said at the time that they did not want her to undergo a mental health evaluation.
Strange behavior
Last Sunday, the woman allegedly hit her head on the wall of her cell several times, causing two black eyes, News Channel 5 reported.
Two days later, she allegedly dove headfirst onto the concrete floor from her bed.
She was taken to the emergency room, but is now in stable condition.
At the request of health professionals, Mme Elliott will be sent to a state facility more suited to her self-destructive behavior while awaiting trial.
The woman has no criminal record. She worked for the fast food chain McDonald’s.
