Two lawyers who have worked at high levels in the American justice system reacted Thursday to Donald Trump’s guilty verdict.

They also spoke on the sentence that awaited the ex-president, mentioning that they did not believe that a prison sentence would be imposed on July 11.
“I think it’s very unlikely that he’s going to be sent to prison,” said former U.S. Attorney Frederick T. Davis.
“Even if he were an average person who was not a former president and presidential candidate, a man of his age with a clean criminal record, convicted of fraud, normally would not be sent to prison,” explains for his part the lawyer and former assistant prosecutor in New York, Stephen L. Dreyfuss.
The latter nevertheless expects a severe sentence, possibly a sentence to be served at home with an electronic bracelet.
“The unanimity of the jury exerts maximum pressure on the judge, because if the juror had been divided (…) the judge would be tempted to be more lenient,” maintains Mr. Dreyfuss.
