The increasing calls to boycott American products in France sparked widespread controversy on platforms, in light of the decline in the popularity of US President Donald Trump and his policies between the French and the growing feeling of moving away from the common values between the two countries.
In a clear indication of the change of popular mood, one of the French deputies recently called for the restoration of the statue of freedom, which France gave to the United States in 1886, considering that his symbolism is no longer in line with America’s values today in light of Trump’s return to the presidency.
According to an opinion poll conducted by the French “Evop” Institute, only 26% of the French believe that there is a rapprochement of values between France and America Trump, compared to 49% that believed in 2004, in a clear decline in the level of value rapprochement between the two countries.
The poll showed that only 25% of the French support Trump, compared to the support of 65% for former US President Barack Obama in 2010, which means a decline in the popularity of the US President in France by about 40 points.
Not only was dissatisfaction, but 62% of the French support the boycott of American products, while one out of every 3 French is actually interrupting at least one American product, according to the survey results.
It is noteworthy that the support of the boycott exceeds the traditional party divisions in France, as it is more popular among the left’s voters by 72%, and is supported by 65% of the right -wing voters, while it reaches 49% even among supporters of the far right.
3 prominent American brands topped the list of targeted products in the province, namely Tesla, Coca -Cola and Macedonalds, as symbols of American collective consumption, and the French newspaper Liberation has allocated its first page on this topic entitled: “Tesla, Mondo and Coca … the boycott is popular.”
The boycott of Tesla has been witnessing a continuation for weeks in several European countries, where demonstrators were accused in front of the company’s headquarters in Paris, its owner, Elon Musk and Donald Trump, of destroying American democracy, and called for not buying Tesla cars and pressing an economically mask.
According to the director of opinion polls at the Evop Center, those who lead the boycott campaign are the oldest, richest and most educated consumers, which are more usually spent and affect market behavior in general.
Controversy despite the decline in popularity
And the network of networks (3/2025/31) monitored numerous tweets on social media that interacted with the results of opinion polls, including what Lucas wrote: “It is not surprising that Trump’s support for Trump in France will decrease. The man was not only far from our democratic values, but also weakened the global image of America. Evop survey numbers reflect the lack of confidence in the policy of isolation and selfishness that it adopts.”
Sasha tweeted: “Despite all the controversy that surrounds Trump, it continues to represent an irreplaceable political power. The boycott is not a solution, but it may lead to disrupting global supply chains and increasing costs on consumers.”
“If Trump’s economic policies negatively affect our interests and rights, then we must have the choice to express our dissatisfaction. Boycott is a clear message that we reject policies that harm justice and the global economy.”
On the other hand, Justin believes that “the calls we are witnessing to boycott the communication platforms is an emotional wave of the new generation who is not aware of the depth of the economic and political crisis. We have to deal with caution and firmness, as the situation in Europe is complicated and needs strategic solutions far from the complexity of matters.”
Among the most prominent reasons behind the increasing support for the campaign to boycott American products in France is the political positions of Trump that angered Europeans, foremost of which is his position on Ukraine and the reduction of support for Kev, in addition to his threats to acquire Greenland.
Trump’s threats to impose additional customs duties on Europe and Canada also sparked the fears of the French and Europeans in general of the consequences of his policies on the global economy, which strengthened the tendency towards boycotting as a way to express rejection of these policies.
