(Washington) Donald Trump said Wednesday that a very large part of the east wing of the White House would be destroyed to make way for a ballroom that he ardently desires, thus confirming that the demolition work would be much larger than previously announced.
The American president assured that, “after study with the best architects in the world”, “really tearing down” this wing was the best solution, leaving only “certain parts”.
“It will be one of the largest ballrooms in the world,” he said, as images of excavators tearing down sections of walls of the historic building sparked strong criticism among the opposition in the United States.
The Democrats thus accused the Republican of not respecting the presidential residence with this demolition of the “East Wing”, where the offices of the first lady are traditionally located.
They also criticized him for launching this project valued at $250 million on Monday, while the country is still in a situation of budgetary paralysis and Americans are facing a high cost of living.
During a lunch in the White House gardens on Tuesday, the president welcomed the work.

You can probably hear the magnificent noise of the construction site behind. Do you hear this sound? Ah, that’s music to my ears. I love this sound.

The 79-year-old real estate mogul also assured that this project would not be financed with taxpayer money.
“When I hear that noise, it makes me think of money. In this case, it makes me think more of the lack of money, because it’s me who pays,” he argued.
The Republican billionaire previously explained that he would help finance the new ballroom with “generous patriots and great businesses.”
Since his return to power, Donald Trump has strived to shape the White House in his image.
The Oval Office, for example, was loaded with golden ornaments and two huge poles were erected on the lawns to fly large American flags.
