Recent data showed that sales of electric cars in China amounted to 11.3 million cars during the year 2024, which is almost the equivalent of twice the sales of the rest of the world combined, according to a report issued by the Anatolia Agency.
This remarkable growth is attributed to the continued rise in domestic demand, in addition to government financial support that is offered within the framework of traditional car replacement programs with electrical ones.
According to the agency, sales of electric cars in China jumped from only about one million cars in 2019 to 11.3 million cars in 2024, recording more than 10 times growth in 5 years.
On the other hand, the United States witnessed a 10% increase in electric car sales during the same year, as 1.5 million cars were sold.
Bid that US President Donald Trump’s statements about the possibility of canceling government support for this sector caused anxiety between manufacturers and consumers.
In Europe, sales of electric cars during 2024 amounted to 3.2 million cars, but it decreased by 6% compared to 2023, a decline in the report mainly to the slowdown in sales in Germany.
Expectations of continuous growth during 2025
According to data issued by the British Research Company “RH or Motion”, electric car sales are expected to continue to grow during the year 2025, similar to the upward trend registered in recent years:
- The company estimates that global sales increase by 18% to exceed 20 million units during the current year, with expectations that China will accommodate 12.9 million electric cars, or annual growth by 17%.
- In Europe, sales are expected to reach 3.5 million cars, an increase of 15%.
- Sales of electric cars in the United States and Canada are likely to reach about 2.1 million units during 2025.
