A skydiving demonstration during the G7 summit in Italy on Thursday made for a comical scene as US President Joe Biden appeared distracted and walked away from the group until the host country’s prime minister, Giorgia Meloni , brings him back to his counterparts.

As leaders of the world’s richest democracies applauded the skydiving display, the US president took a few steps aside and appeared to say something to an officer packing a parachute.

At the same time, the Italian prime minister walked backwards towards Biden before touching his right arm to encourage him to join the group.

The rest of the heads of state then gathered around Biden for a photo, for which the president donned his signature aviator sunglasses.

Accounts affiliated with the Republican Party jumped at the opportunity to bring up the lost appearance of the 81-year-old president.

The Republican National Committee’s X account, RNC Research, posted the video with the description: “WHAT IS BIDEN DOING?”

Biden aides have long said that the president, who would be 86 if he completes a second full term in January 2029, has sometimes lost focus in private conversations in addition to making more public mistakes, according to the New York Post.
