Three people died and nine others were seriously injured when a hangar under construction collapsed near the Boise airport in Idaho on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. when a private company alerted authorities to the collapse of the steel-framed shed, according to the New York Post.
The City of Boise indicated in a press release that five of the people are still in critical condition, after being transported to a hospital by emergency services.
“Everyone present at the site was accounted for Wednesday evening,” Aaron Hummel, chief of operations for the Boise Fire Department, said during a press briefing.
“I don’t know what caused this, but I can tell you that it was a fairly global collapse,” he said, referring to a “catastrophic” accident, according to the local newspaper.
Big D Builders was in charge of the project to build a hangar on behalf of Jackson Jet Center, a private aircraft charter and maintenance services company.
The accident did not affect operations at the Boise Airport, according to the Airport Authority, while an investigation was opened into the causes of the collapse.
