(Los Angeles) California and two other western states of the United States announced on Wednesday to form a “health alliance” to propose their own vaccination recommendations, an initiative to counter the Trump administration’s efforts to reform the country’s vaccination policy.
The announcement of this alliance occurs in the upper standoff between the federal government and the centers for the control and prevention of diseases (CDC), which constitute the main health agency in the country.
After having initiated a deep overhaul of this agency, the secretary of health, Robert Kennedy Jr, disputed for his anti-vaccine positions, dismissed the scientist at their head, a referral which aroused a wave of convictions among the medical institutions and the American left.
“In response to recent federal actions that have compromised the independence of CDCs and raised concerns concerning the politicization of science, California, Oregon and the state of Washington launch the process aimed at providing their residents with unified recommendations based on evidence”, explain the democratic leaders of these states in a common press release.
This alliance will aim to provide populations with vaccination recommendations as well as information on the efficiency and safety of vaccines “developed by scientists, doctors and other public health officials”, they detail.
With the aim that these guidelines can replace those traditionally provided by CDCs.
“CDCs have become a political tool that is increasingly promoting ideology rather than science,” accused the Democratic Governor of California in this press release Gavin Newsom, who is trying to set himself up today by opposing Donald Trump.
“California, Oregon and (the state of) Washington will not allow the population of our states to be endangered,” he continues.
Since his entry into office, Robert Kennedy Jr has initiated a vast overhaul of American health agencies and the country’s vaccination policy, dismissing renowned experts, restricting access to COVVI-19 vaccines or even cutting funds to the development of new vaccines.
