Former US President Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court on Wednesday to intervene after Colorado ruled the businessman’s candidacy inadmissible.

Lawyers for former US President Donald Trump on Wednesday asked the US Supreme Court to review the Colorado case and overturn their decision to remove Mr Trump from the Republican primary ballot. It states that this would be “the first time in the history of the United States that the judicial system has prevented voters from casting their ballots for the main presidential candidate of a major party.”

In the document sent to the US Supreme Court, it is emphasized that the resolution of this issue is necessary as the Republican primaries approach for the presidential election of November 2024.

On December 19, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that Donald Trump was ineligible for the presidency because of his actions during the storming of the Capitol. It was at this time that there was an order to withdraw the ballots in his name from the Republican primaries for the 2024 presidential election in this state.

The state of Maine also considered that the Republican favorite for the American presidential election was not “fit for the office of president” for the same reasons. The decisions of Maine and Colorado were based on the 14e amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which excludes from public liability anyone, after taking an oath to defend the Constitution, who engages in acts of “rebellion” or “insurrection.”

Remember that on January 6, 2021, hundreds of supporters of Donald Trump violently stormed the Capitol in order to prevent the certification of the victory of the Democrat, Joe Biden. In the aftermath of the events, more than a hundred police officers were injured and one woman lost her life.
