Last week, a memo to embassies directed diplomats in Ottawa, New Zealand, Australia and Western European countries to report on the human rights implications and public safety consequences of “mass migration.”
The State Department says its officials “will urge governments to take strong action and protect their citizens against the threats posed by mass migration.”
A senior State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity, says the United States is not seeking to dictate how other countries should behave, but rather to warn them against the mass importation of people from cultures it describes as “radically different.”
US President Donald Trump has long criticized European immigration policies, and Vice President JD Vance recently attacked Canada.
In a social media post Friday, Mr. Vance linked what he called a “stagnant standard of living” in Canada to an “immigration madness.”
