Two people were killed and six others injured in a shooting at a block party on Saturday in Memphis in the United States, local police reported.
Two individuals were found dead at the scene and one of the six injured is hospitalized “in critical condition,” police in the city of Memphis, located in the state of Tennessee (southeast) wrote on the social network .
The shooting took place during an unauthorized block party that brought together some 200 to 300 people near Orange Mound Park in Memphis, law enforcement added.
With more guns than people, the United States has the highest gun death rate of any developed country.
Shootings are a recurring scourge that successive governments have so far been powerless to stem, with many Americans remaining very attached to their weapons.
The NGO Gun Violence Archive, which qualifies as mass shootings those which left at least four dead or injured, has counted 120 since the 1er January in the United States.
In 2023, there were 656 mass shootings recorded.
