Two young skiers, aged 23 and 32, lost their lives in an avalanche on Thursday in the US state of Utah.
The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called around 10:30 a.m. to an accident in rough terrain in Lone Peak Canyon, the New York Post reported.
If the two victims did not survive, a third skier who was found two hours later in a fairly critical condition was saved, local police said, mentioning that these outdoor enthusiasts were experienced skiers.
“This is a tragedy, and our hearts go out to the families and the outdoor community in which these people were actively engaged,” said Rosie Rivera of the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, quoted by the American media.
“This reminds us that Mother Nature can be unpredictable, and we encourage everyone to be aware of the dangers of late snowpack and spring runoff,” she added.
