A two-year-old boy accidentally opened fire on a man on Monday after the gun was left unattended at the family home.
Chesterfield County police have not identified the man, but ABC News reports he is believed to be the boyfriend of the child’s mother.
He allegedly left his handgun on a chair before leaving the house.
The child retrieved the gun. He “accidentally shot the victim (on his return)“, police said. The victim was taken to hospital. The man is said to be in critical condition.
The investigation is continuing.
