The Moroccan Energy Ministry said, Friday, that the current investment budget in renewable energies amounts to 20 billion dirhams (billion dollars).

“The percentage of investments in the electricity networks will double 5 times by 2030,” she added in a statement posted on Facebook.

She explained that her country recently launched 6 new projects in green hydrogen at 319 billion dirhams (32 billion dollars), of which 130 billion dirhams (13 billion dollars) to produce one million tons of ammonia.

The Ministry of Energy Transitions statement comes days after Morocco announced the selection of 5 national and international investors to complete 6 projects in the southern provinces in the Kingdom to complete green hydrogen projects.

Morocco is rushing to ensure its energy needs, especially as it imports 96% of them, in conjunction with price fluctuations at the international level.

The Kingdom is working to increase investment in renewable energies, as well as partnerships in the framework of green hydrogen, as part of the efforts to reduce dependency on external sources.

Moroccan Energy Minister Laila Benali said last year that her country has invested 60 billion dirhams (6 billion dollars) in renewable energy projects during the past 14 years since the announcement of the National Energy Strategy in 2009, noting that more than 50% of wind energy projects have been developed by the private sector.

Morocco plans to produce 52% of electricity from renewable energies by 2030.
