(Washington) US President Donald Trump urged the general prosecutor to act against two of his political opponents on Saturday, accused of fraud, in order to protect “the reputation and credibility” of his administration.
In a publication on Truth Social probably addressed to the Minister of Justice Pam Bondi, the leader annoys a lack of legal action against the Californian senator Adam Schiff and the general prosecutor of the New York State Letitia James, members of the Democratic Party.
They are accused by the manager of the Housing Financing Agency Bill Pulte, a relative of Donald Trump, of falsification of documents concerning requests for real estate loans.
“We cannot wait any longer, it ruins our reputation and our credibility,” says the president, saying that he had read dozens of messages calling for pursuing Mr. Schiff and Mme James, but also the former director of the FBI James Comey, accused by Mr. Trump of having lied to the Congress.
Friday, the federal prosecutor Erik Siebert, who had refused to initiate prosecution against Letitia James, resigned, when his departure was claimed by the Republican.
Letitia James is a fierce adversary of Donald Trump, who had made him sentence to pay a fine of almost half a billion dollars before his return to the White House.
This condemnation for fraud was canceled at the end of August by a New York State Court of Appeal, which considered that the fine was “excessive”, Mme James announcing his intention to appeal.
“I saw it (Siebert, editor’s note), and there is a big deal, and many lawyers and legal experts say the same thing,” said Trump in his publication, apparently referring to the investigations on Mme James.
During the first Trump mandate, Adam Schiff, then deputy, had led the president’s indictment during his first trial in dismissal.
Donald Trump was then acquitted by the Senate, then again in 2021 after a second procedure.
“They targeted me with a dismissal procedure twice and charged (5 times!) For nothing. Justice must be done now, ”he launched on Truth Social.
An hour later, in another message, he said he would name Lindsey Halligan, a White House Advisor, to replace Erik Siebert, referring to the need for a “hard prosecutor” to help Pam Bondi.
