US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the Brex Group countries may face 100% customs duties from the United States “if they want to tamper with dollars.”
“If any trading occurs, the customs duties will be at least 100%.”
At the end of last month, Trump warned the BRICS to replace the dollar as a backup currency, and threatened to impose 100%customs duties, the same threat that he launched weeks after his victory in the presidential elections last November.
Trump said previously – his speech to Brex countries – “these countries have if they seek to replace the dollar to say goodbye to dealing with the wonderful American economy, and they can go to find other parties to deal with them.” He stressed that there is no chance, because the Brex is replaced by the US dollar In international trade, or anywhere else, and any country trying to do so is awaiting high customs duties or “depositing dealing with America.”
The status of the dollar
The dominance of the dollar has been strengthened, benefiting from the power of the American economy, the strict monetary policy and the increasing geopolitical risks.
A study conducted by the Jio Economics Center, affiliated with the Atlantic Council last year, showed that the dollar is still the world’s basic reserve currency, noting that the euro and the BRICS were unable to reduce global dependence on the US currency.
Trump’s new threat to the Brex Group comes at a time when he imposed or intended to impose on many countries.
