The British newspaper The Guardian got their hands on a 12-minute recording in which we can hear the speech given by the former American president as part of this dinner which took place in Aspen, Colorado on August 10.
During this fundraiser, guests were asked to make a donation ranging from $25,000 to $500,000 per couple.
During his speech, the Republican candidate recounted how members of his golf club wanted to donate money to the family of Corey Comperatore, the firefighter killed during the attempted murder of Trump in Pennsylvania a month earlier.
“They gave me a check for a million dollars. That’s a lot of money. Perhaps even more impressive is that we launched a crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe and we raised over $6 million for those killed or injured, which means three people,” said Donald Trump.
Afterwards, the ex-president made a joke as he spoke of his meeting with the widow of the firefighter killed in Pennsylvania.
“I gave her the check and she said, ‘That’s really nice and I appreciate it, but I’d much rather have my husband with me.’ I know that several women here tonight would not have said the same thing,” he said with a laugh.
The guests then burst out laughing and Donald Trump added: “There are 4 couples that I know who would have been excited, in fact.”
During this same speech, the Republican candidate also claimed that the next election could be “the last” if Kamala Harris was elected on November 5.
