White House spokeswoman Caroline Levit said that President Donald Trump is still optimistic about the possibility of a trade agreement with China, despite the escalation of the trade conflict between the two countries and the high level of customs duties, said White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitte.
“The president has completely made it clear that he was open to reaching an agreement with China,” Levitte added during a press conference held on Friday, noting that “China’s continued response to US measures will not be in its favor,” according to Reuters.
The spokeswoman confirmed that President Trump hopes to reach commercial agreements with other countries before the 90 -day period ended in dialogue, adding that “more than 75 countries have contacted us to address commercial issues, and almost all of them responded to the president’s warnings wisely.”
15 shows and willingness to “negotiating” with Beijing
Levitt indicated that the White House has so far received 15 ready offers from countries that seek to review its trade relations with the United States, stressing that Trump “promised to be very generous in negotiations with China, provided that Beijing shows goodwill.”
At the same time, the level of US customs duties imposed on China continues to settle at 145%, while China recently announced raising its counter -fees to 125%, in a mutual escalation that worries global markets, according to the German News Agency.

In a post on the “Truth Social” platform, the US President said, “We are doing a really good job at the level of our customs duties policy, as it is a very interesting step for America and the world … and it is going quickly.”
Trump pointed out that his administration is heading to intensify commercial talks with a number of countries, despite the increasing criticism of economic and political circles, stressing that “the approach of customs duties is on the right path,” as he put it.
