One Supreme Court justice quickly expressed her complete disagreement with the decision by the highest court in the United States to grant partial immunity to Donald Trump in his lawsuit for trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who was appointed to the Supreme Court by former Democratic President Barack Obama in 2009, was outspoken in her criticism of Monday’s decision.

“Let the president break the law, let him use the attributes of his office for personal gain, let him use his official power for nefarious purposes. Because if he knew that he might one day be held accountable for breaking the law, he might not be as bold and fearless as we would like him to be,” she said, according to CNN.

According to her, “the damage is done”, even if she hopes that none of the scenarios she fears will take place.

“The relationship between the President and the people he serves has been irreparably altered. In every use of his official power, the President is now a king above the law,” Justice Sotomayor said.

“He orders Navy Team 6 to assassinate a political rival? Immune. Stages a military coup to maintain power? Immune. Accepts a bribe in exchange for a pardon? Immune. Immunity, immunity, immunity,” she illustrated.
