Yesterday evening, US President Donald Trump signed executive orders to impose customs duties by 25% on all imports of steel and aluminum to the United States from all countries without exception, which raised European reactions demanding a collective response, and while Canada expresses a peer with the United States, President Trump does not hide his desire for the state to be 51 within America.
The US government did not immediately publish the official documents signed by Trump, but several American media quoted government sources that customs duties will enter into force on March 4.
Trump indicated that he will impose plans to impose customs duties on other countries on the basis of reciprocity, and that he is also studying the imposition of customs duties on cars and semiconductor chips.
When Trump was asked about the possibility of other countries to respond to the American customs duties, he said, “I do not care.”
Trump had said during a previous television interview that he would announce a “very complex plan” of mutual customs duties, perhaps on Monday or today, Tuesday.
Australia exemption
Trump agreed to consider Australia’s exemption from customs duties on steel and aluminum in light of the country’s trade surplus with the United States, after a phone call with Prime Minister Anthony Albanizi.
Albanizi said in the phone call with Trump that he offered the reasons for Australia to get an exemption.
After Trump told reporters that there would be no exceptions, he pointed out that Australia is one of the few countries with which the United States has a trade surplus, after the call with Albanzee.
“We have a surplus with Australia. It is one of a few countries. The reason is that they buy a lot of aircraft,” he said.
“I told him that we will take great attention,” he added.
Albanizi said Australia contributes 1% to US steel imports and 2% of its aluminum imports.
Trump relieved Australia during his first presidential term from US customs duties on steel and aluminum.

European response
Although many experts believe that American customs duties are ineffective and may be inverse results, Trump is regularly provided as the magic solution to revive the American economy.
For its part, European Commission President Ursula von der Line said today, Tuesday, that the European Union will not leave the United States’ decision to impose customs duties on steel imports from Europe that passes without a response.
“I feel deep regret over the American decision to impose customs duties on European steel and aluminum exports,” she wrote on the X platform.
French Minister of Industry, Mark Ferrasi, said in an interview with the TV TV channel, that Europe should respond firmly and unified to customs duties, expressing his hope that the European response will come soon (adding the French response).
The German government expressed concern after Trump announced his intention to impose these fees on Sunday, as a spokesman for the German Ministry of Economy and Energy told reporters in Berlin that customs duties would affect the German economy based on export.
When asked if possible anti -action procedures will again target American products such as motorcycles, as happened during Trump’s first term, the spokesman replied that “there is no automatic move based on the previous experience.”
During its first term (2017-2021), the Trump administration also imposed customs duties on steel and aluminum from the European Union, and the bloc was replaced by imposing retaliatory definitions on American products such as some drinks, motorcycles and peanut butter.
During the presidency of Joe Biden, an agreement was reached by the intensity of the trade conflict, and led to the cancellation of mutual fees.
Germany is the largest steel producer in the European Union, and it ranks seventh in the world after China, India, Japan, the United States, Russia and South Korea, and the United States is the most important market for German exporters in various industries.
According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, the United States imports most of its steel imports from Canada, Brazil and Mexico, while Germany and China come among the 10 largest steel exporting countries to the American market.

Canadian reserve firm
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday that Canada will seek to highlight the negative impact of customs duties imposed by the United States on steel and aluminum, and that the Canadian response will be firm and strong if necessary.
“The Canadians will respond with force and firmness if necessary,” he added on the sidelines of the artificial intelligence in Paris, and Trudeau described these drawings as “unacceptable.”
Trump uses customs duties a pressure tool in his external policy to achieve political goals.
At the beginning of February, a commercial war was avoided in North America at the present time, as Trump announced 25% customs duties on imports from Mexico and Canada, but suspended its implementation for 30 days after Ottawa and Mexico City pledged to increase security measures On the border.
