Former 64 -year -old federal police chief, James Comey, is prosecuted for false declaration and hinders justice “in relation to his oral testimony before the judicial commission of the Senate” in 2020, according to the Department of Justice.

He was then questioned within the framework of the FBI investigation into the supposed links between Russia and the first presidential campaign of Donald Trump in 2016. A year later, in 2017, he was dismissed by the Republican President.

For Donald Trump, James Comey “lied” before the congress.

“It is not a complex lie, it is a very simple, but important lie. There is no way for him to get out of it. He is a crooked cop, and he has always been, “the American president wrote in a publication on his Truth Social platform on Friday.

He estimated that James Comey had to “pay the high price”.

Before leaving the White House by helicopter to attend a golf competition near New York, he also called for other prosecution against those he perceives as opponents, criticisms or adversaries.

“This is not a list, but I think there will be others,” said Donald Trump, who had not hid during his presidential campaign his desires for revenge against all those he considers they put sticks on the wheels, such as the general prosecutor of the state of New York Letitia James.

This weekend, he had publicly put pressure on the Department of Justice to engage this type of prosecution more quickly, increasing fears of the Democratic opposition on a risk of questioning the separation of powers.

“I’m not afraid”

In a video published on Instagram, James Comey responded Thursday to the announcement of his indictment by saying: “I am not afraid”. “Fear is the weapon of tyrants,” he said.

“My family and I have known for years what it costs to oppose Donald Trump,” he also assured, calling for not living “on my knees” against the president.

“I have confidence in federal justice and I am innocent,” concluded the ex-head of the FBI.

According to the Department of Justice, James Comey faces up to five years’ imprisonment.

Kash Patel, the current Patron of the FBI, insured on X Friday that “FBI agents, intelligence specialists and staff members had conducted Comey and other people. They made the necessary decisions ”.

“The completely false accusations that attack the FBI about the politicization of the law comes from the same bankrupt media that have sold the” Russia Gate “to the whole world-it is excessive hypocrisy,” he added.

In a report in 2019, during Donald Trump’s first term, the FBI had concluded that the evidence of collusion between Moscow and his team, but had raised a series of disturbing pressures exerted by the American president on the investigation.

Since the return to power of Donald Trump in January, the American authorities have launched several investigations against personalities considered hostile to the Republican, including James Comey and the former CIA director John Brennan.
