US President Donald Trump has renewed his criticism of the high tariffs imposed by India, noting that the country is still a target of similar customs duties that will enter into force on April 2.
“India is a country that imposes very high customs definitions,” Trump said yesterday, Thursday, and described the new customs duties that the United States intends to impose as a “large” among many of the fees it pledged, according to Bloomberg news agency on Friday.
It is estimated that India will be strongly affected by these drawings, due to its imposition of higher customs definitions compared to the United States, which Trump considers discrimination against American companies.
Accusations of India
Trump’s recent statements reflect his strict stance towards Indian commercial policies, as he previously accused New Delhi of placing commercial barriers that unrelently punish American companies.
These statements come at a time when Indian Minister of Trade Biosh Joyal will visit the United States this week, to hold talks with Trump administration officials on commercial policy between the two countries, according to the German news agency.
Reciprocity
The US President has signed a new plan to increase customs duties on all the trade partners of the United States, to suit the rates of fees imposed by these countries on American goods, based on the similarly treatment base.
This step has sparked immediate concern among many international trade partners, who threatened to respond similarly to the American customs definitions, which threatens to escalate trade tensions at the global level.
According to the German News Agency, the World Trade Organization has warned that these measures may lead to the outbreak of a trade war, which would affect global trade and increase pressure on emerging markets.
