The ultra-favorite of the American right Donald Trump and his rival Nikki Haley each urged their supporters on Friday to mobilize in numbers the next day for the Republican primary in South Carolina.

“Tomorrow, you will participate in one of the most important elections of your life,” said the former president during a campaign rally in Rock Hill, in this southeastern state of the country where Nikki Haley been governor.

“Everyone must go and vote,” the former UN ambassador told her supporters at the water’s edge in Mount Pleasant, an imposing aircraft carrier behind her as a symbol – she regularly reminds that her husband is a soldier and says he wants to wear the army colors high.

“Take five people with you. Make sure you tell your neighbors, your family,” she added. “Drag them as best you can to the polls!” »

Donald Trump, 77, and Nikki Haley, 52, are the only two notable candidates remaining in the Republican primaries, which are expected to nominate the party’s presidential nominee in November.

The former governor urges Republicans to choose “a new generation of conservative leaders” over “four more years of Trump’s chaos.” But she has so far lost every primary to him – in Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada.

She hopes to do better this Saturday than what the polls predict in South Carolina: they place her almost 30 points behind her opponent.

“She is going to have a very bad day tomorrow, because she is not a good person,” declared Donald Trump, predicting a “giant victory”.

“We are going to win this state and then we are going to tell Joe Biden that he is fired,” he assured.

Nikki Haley, for her part, assured that she was best placed to win in the presidential election against the current 81-year-old Democratic president, who is seeking a second term.

She also mentioned the numerous legal cases surrounding Donald Trump, who alternates between campaign events and court appearances.

“Our children deserve normalcy. Joe Biden calls anyone who doesn’t support him a fascist. And Donald Trump calls anyone who doesn’t support him vermin. This is not normal,” she said.

Polling stations will open at 7 a.m. on Saturday.

The winner of the Republican primaries, which can in theory last until the summer, will, barring any surprises, be opposed to Joe Biden in November.
