(Miami) The alleged perpetrator of an assassination attempt against Donald Trump on his golf course in Florida in 2024, two months before the presidential election, was found guilty on Tuesday and tried to face a pen after the verdict, report several American media.
Ryan Routh, 59, was recognized by a jury guilty of all the counts, including that of attempted assassination of a candidate for the presidential election, liable to life prison. The pronouncement of his sentence was set for December 18.
After reading the verdict in a Federal Tribunal in Florida (Southeast), he tried to stab with a pen but the guards intervened to prevent it, report in particular Fox News and NBC.
Donald Trump praised on his social social platform “a very great moment for justice in America”, while the general prosecutor Pam Bondi praised on X a verdict which “illustrates the commitment of the Department of Justice to punish all those who engage in political violence”.
Judge Aileen Cannon had authorized Ryan Routh in July, 59, to ensure his own defense despite his lack of legal training.
Ryan Routh was also prosecuted for illegal weapon detention because of his criminal record, possession of a weapon with a deleted serial number, fiery weapon in view of the committee of a violent crime, and the assault of a federal agent.
He was fled on September 15, 2024 by the agents of Secret Service, in charge of the protection of high American political figures, who had spotted him with a weapon near the golf course on which Donald Trump played. He had been arrested soon after.
It was the second attempted assassination against the Republican candidate and future winner of the 2024 presidential election.
Donald Trump narrowly escaped another attempt on July 13, 2024, during a meeting in Butler, Pennsylvania.
