(Washington) Donald Trump acknowledged that Republicans could lose the midterm elections in 2026, despite what he considers to be economic successes for nearly a year, in an interview with Wall Street Journal (WSJ) published Saturday evening.

“I created the greatest economy in history. But it takes time for people to realize it,” noted the President of the United States in this interview that the economic daily said it conducted on Friday in the Oval Office.

“All this money that is pouring into our country right now (allows) us to build things: car factories, AI, a lot of stuff. (But) I can’t tell you how that will translate for the voter. All I can do is my job,” admitted the Republican billionaire.

Returning to the White House on January 20, Donald Trump regularly assures that the United States economy is now flourishing and continues to blame his Democratic predecessor Joe Biden for inflation.

“I think that by the time we talk about the elections, in a few more months, I think the price level will be good,” the president told the WSJ, almost a year before the mid-term elections which will allow, at the beginning of November, to renew the House of Representatives and a third of the Senate.

“Even those, you know, who had a successful presidency,” suffered setbacks, acknowledged the 79-year-old former real estate developer, first elected in 2016.

“We’ll see what happens. We should win. But, you know, statistically, it’s very difficult to win,” Mr. Trump told the American newspaper.

The world’s largest economy is worth “25/20”, he told the media Politico in an interview published Tuesday.

The tenant of the White House, re-elected in November 2024 on his promise to reduce the inflation rate, insists that prices are falling, while many of his fellow citizens still complain about the high cost of living.

According to an opinion survey by the University of Chicago for the AP agency, published Thursday, only 31% of Americans are satisfied with Donald Trump’s economic policy.

“When will the polls reflect the greatness of America today? » he then thundered on his Truth Social platform. “When will we finally say that I created, without inflation, perhaps the best economy in the history of our country? When will people understand what’s going on? »
