A 16-year-old cheerleader in Texas died Monday after her parents tried to treat her fatal injuries with smoothies and vitamins.
This is what the newspaper reported. My San AntonioMiranda Sipps suffered serious injuries four days before she finally died.
The circumstances and nature of the injuries that caused Miranda Sipps’ death have not been specified. The teenager was unable to speak after her injuries, as she was in respiratory distress when her mother finally decided to take her to the hospital.
Miranda Sipps’ mother, Denise Balbaneda, and her stepfather Gerald Gonzalez, 40, were arrested for failing to seek medical attention sooner to treat the teenager. Even though the girl was unresponsive, they allegedly tried to give her smoothies and vitamins, before eventually taking her to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries hours later.
“They thought they could treat her that way and we believe they didn’t want to attract attention,” Sheriff David Soward said. “It’s ironic, but that was their thinking.”
The investigation is continuing. An autopsy will be performed on Miranda Sipps’ body.
