The Government of Canada issued a travel advisory on Tuesday to avoid traveling to certain areas of Florida and Mexico due to Hurricane Milton.

On its website, the government invites Canadians to avoid all non-essential travel to certain areas of the west coast and east coast of Florida.
On the West Coast, it is recommended to avoid the Chokoloskee area at the mouth of the Suwanee River, including Tampa Bay, Lake Okeechobee and the Dry Tortugas.
On the east coast, Ottawa asks to avoid the area between “the dividing line between the counties of Saint Lucie and Indian River northward to Ponte Vedra Beach”.
Regarding Mexico, Ottawa advises avoiding all travel to the west and north coasts of the Yucatán Peninsula, from Celestun to Cabo Catoche.
Hurricane “Milton”, which had reached category 5, but was downgraded to category 4 overnight from Monday to Tuesday, is expected to sweep the west and north coasts of the Yucatán Peninsula on Tuesday.
The “extremely dangerous” storm is then expected to pass through Florida on Wednesday and Thursday.
Authorities in this US state have called on residents in at-risk areas to evacuate before the hurricane hits.
The west coast of Florida, particularly the Tampa Bay area, is barely recovering from Hurricane “Helene” which devastated the state nearly two weeks ago.
A large amount of debris still lies on the streets and is at risk of being displaced by flooding from Hurricane “Milton.”
