Zimbabwe President Emerson Manangagua said he will cancel all customs duties on the goods from the United States of America to reduce prices and improve import.
Last week, US President Donald Trump approved an increase in customs tariffs in varying rates to a number of countries, including the Zimbabwe Republic, by 18%.
While the major global powers such as China, the European Union and Canada have vowed to take revenge measures from the United States, some countries preferred dialogue and the logic of begging to improve relations by trying to correct the path of trade exchange such as South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The United States does not classify a major economic partner for the Zimbabwe state, as the volume of trade exchange between them in 2023 amounted to about 157 million dollars, and decreased in 2024 to 110 million US dollars.
Recently, Zimbabwe went towards China, Russia and India, and has concluded commercial deals with many companies in those countries.
Tomonize relationships
Although many countries expressed concern about the customs tariffs imposed by Trump, Zimbabwe has found an appropriate opportunity to revitalize relations with Washington, which has witnessed a remarkable decline in recent years.
On the X platform, Zimbabwe President Emerson Manangagua wrote, “from the spirit of building a positive and mutual relationship with the United States of America, under the leadership of President Trump, I will direct the Zimbabwe government to suspend all customs duties imposed on the goods received from the United States.”
This is not the first time that the Zimbabwe government has shown its paths of White House resolutions during President Donald Trump.
When the United States announced last February the deportation of 530 non -regime immigrants from the state of Zimbabwe, President Manangagua said he supports the decision to return citizens who do not reside in legitimate means.
The Zimbabwe government is seeking to cancel the sanctions imposed by the administration of former President Joe Biden on the president and a number of political officials.
In 2024, the United States included President Emerson Manangagua in the list of Magnitsky Penal for the United States, the United States imposing sanctions on human rights violators all over the world) because of what it said were severe violations that occurred after its victory in the controversial presidency in 2023.
The United States says that the Bazbabwe sanctions program targets 12 people and 3 other entities, and also gives American companies the right to review their commercial interests in the country.
Zimbabwe is classified as one of the African countries rich in gold, nickel, iron, copper, tin and iron, and tobacco is more exports to the American market.
