The Government of Canada had already initiated a series of measures and investments to secure the border with the United States, even before Donald Trump threatened to impose a 25% tax on Canadian products, assured the Minister of Security public.

“It’s been several months that the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police), the border services, the security intelligence service, they have been planning for all kinds of scenarios,” indicated Dominic LeBlanc in an interview with the 5 p.m. bulletin from Quebec, THURSDAY.
But the president-elect of the United States somehow forced the hands of the governments of Canada and Mexico with his social media outing.
Mr. Trump thus forced the Trudeau government to do more to resolve the problems at the borders and that is what he intends to do, said Mr. LeBlanc, who does not want “people to believe that we are arriving late to the conversation.
“We intend to invest more in the coming weeks. We are going to talk about (adding) other helicopters, drones, equipment, personnel. We will add the necessary personnel to continue to assure Canadians, and (…) Americans at the same time, that the border is secure,” he said.
“We will quickly invest additional money to strengthen the visible posture,” he continued. It is a border of 9000 kilometers. There are cameras, there are drones, there are all kinds of planes that are capable of detecting movements.”
According to the member for Beauséjour, New Brunswick, Mr. Trump’s threat will only force the Canadian government to clearly demonstrate its initiatives to secure the border, but, generally speaking, the procedures had already begun.
These measures will be announced during the economic update from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland.
“I didn’t know the date. When we have a date, I have the impression that she will announce it,” he said while complaining that “Parliament has been paralyzed by the actions of the conservatives in large part.”
