An Ohio mother was sentenced to 13 and a half years in prison this week for causing the death of her 4-year-old daughter by giving her almost exclusively Mountain Dew, several American media report .
Tamara Banks, 31, pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges against her following the tragic death of her daughter Karmity in January 2022.

The child’s father, Christopher Hoeb, also pleaded guilty to the same charges. He is expected to receive his sentence on June 11.

The investigation revealed that Karmity was constantly fed baby bottles filled with Mountain Dew, a drink with a sugar concentration of 46 g per 355 mL.
The girl died in hospital due to complications related to diabetes. His teeth were rotting at the time of his death.
She suffered from extreme neglect: her parents prevented her from receiving medical care and eating healthily, despite the child’s many obvious health problems.

A few days before her death, the little girl had a serious health problem, but the couple did not seek help and refused to take little Karmity to the hospital. Besides, the little one would have never seen a dentist in her life either.
According to the autopsy, the girl died of diabetic ketoacidosis, a dangerous complication of high blood sugar.
