An American couple from Colorado had their van stolen, which was attached to a caravan in which they were sleeping with their dog and a friend, before alerting the police without the thief knowing.

On that warm night in early June, the burglar in the stolen vehicle refused to stop despite the police flashing their lights and blocking his path on a dead-end street after a short chase in Boulder.

Fugitive David Bradley Metz, 47, who displayed disconcerting composure, initiated a dialogue that seemed to be on the moon, addressing the police officers: “A problem, officer? Can you tell me?” as he was handcuffed.

“In the caravan you just stole, the owners are sleeping,” the policeman explained to the suspect, who had the audacity to reply without batting an eyelid: “I didn’t steal it, I was just trying it out.”

The police officers who rescued the victims in their camper arrested the suspect, who has three previous convictions for the same reasons, for theft and endangering the lives of others, the American media continued, citing the Boulder police.
