The first winning ticket for the 2024 Mega Millions jackpot, worth US$1.13 billion, was won Tuesday evening in New Jersey.
The lucky combination of winning numbers was 7, 11, 22, 29, 38 and the Mega Ball, 4, according to what was reported by the “New York Post”, which specifies that they are the fifth biggest prize in the history of the lottery.
The holder(s) of the winning ticket had a one in 302.6 million chance of getting their hands on the jackpot which they will pocket in annual payments or in a one-time lump sum payment estimated at US$537.5 million.
Tuesday evening’s win constitutes the first jackpot won since last December when two tickets sold in California allowed them to get their hands on US$395 million.
In addition to the jackpot, 13 lottery players won US$1 million each in New York, Florida, California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio, according to the New York tabloid.
The largest Mega Millions jackpot worth more than US$1.6 billion was won in August 2023 by a Floridian who purchased the winning ticket at a Publix supermarket in Neptune Beach.
