Syrian President Ahmed Al -Sharaa is discussing with his French counterpart in Paris today a number of files, foremost of which is the reconstruction and the prospects for economic cooperation, especially in the fields of energy and aviation, according to what the French Press Agency quoted an official source in the Syrian Ministry of Information.
French President Emmanuel Macron is receiving in Paris today the Sharia on his first visit to Europe since he came to power after the ousted President Bashar al -Assad was overthrown last December.
The visit comes at a time when the Syrian state faces major challenges at several levels between economic and security.
The two presidents are discussing “a number of bilateral and regional issues,” according to the source, whose identity did not disclose his identity, adding, “The issue of reconstruction and prospects for economic cooperation and development in Syria comes in the forefront of the issues on which the talks will focus on, especially in the fields of energy and the aviation sector.”
Lattakia Port Agreement
This visit was previously signed by the French company, “CMCGM”, the giant of logistical services, a 30 -year contract with Syria last week to develop and operate the port of Lattakia, in the presence of Sharia.

The talks include, according to the source, “important files, perhaps the most prominent of which are the security challenges facing the new Syrian government and the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian sovereignty, relations with neighboring countries, especially Lebanon”, the country adjacent to Syria with which it is combined with common interests, and France is one of its traditional supporters.
The extension of the authority of the Syrian state is the most prominent challenge, especially after the violence last March, in the west of the country, which killed 1700 people.
The first visit
The source stressed the importance of the visit “being the first for a European country after the fall of the defunct regime, which contributes to developing the state’s external relations and restoring its position.”
The Elysee Palace, the French Press Agency, reported on Tuesday that the French President “will reaffirm France’s support for building a new Syria, free and stable Syria and a woman who respects all components of Syrian society.”
He added that “this meeting falls within the framework of France’s historic commitment to the Syrians who look at peace and democracy,” stressing that Macron will repeat his demands from the Syrian government, foremost of which is the stability of the region, especially Lebanon, as well as combating terrorism. “
