Mexican President Claudia Shinbom said on Tuesday that there is no justification for the 25% customs fees imposed by US President Donald Trump on imports from Mexico, adding that her government would respond with customs and non -customs procedures.
During a press conference today, Shinbom considered that “there is no reason, logic or justification to support this decision, which will affect our people and our countries … there is no profit from this decision.”
The customs definition procedures imposed by Trump entered into force at 12:01 am in Washington (05:01 GMT) after a preliminary stop for 30 days, during which Mexican officials engaged in talks with Washington and enhancing security on the border between the United States and Mexico.
Trump announced yesterday, Monday, that Mexico, Canada and China have not made sufficient efforts to stop the flow of murderous drugs and chemicals used in its production to the United States.
Xinbom said Mexico collaborated with the United States on immigration, security and combating drug smuggling issues.
“In these thirty days, decisive measures were taken against organized crime and trafficking in fentanel, in addition to holding bilateral meetings on security and trade,” she added.
Shenbum said it would provide details about Mexico’s response, including counter -tariffs, in an event that will be held in the famous Zokalo Square in the capital on Sunday.
On Tuesday morning, the Mexican Bezo fell about 1% against the dollar.
Mexico is the largest commercial partners with the United States, as it controls 16%of global trade with America, followed by Canada by 14%, then China by 11%.
Economists have warned that Trump’s brinking policy puts North America on the brink of a trade war, will harm American growth, and to exacerbate inflation, and may lead to recession in Mexico and Canada.
The new customs definitions of Tram risen to destabilize the commercial agreement of North America that Trump signed during his first term.
