The Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources in the caretaker government in Syria issued a price list for selling fuel and gas to consumers to prevent any violations or price manipulation.
And I specified:
- The price of gasoline is $1.16 per litre.
- The price of a liter of diesel fuel is about a dollar.
- The price of a domestic gas cylinder is about $12.28.
Syria imports most of its crude oil needs, as previous official estimates show a decline in the country’s production by about 96% compared to what the situation was before the revolution.
Abundance of fuel
According to Syrian government figures last year, about 3 million barrels per day were arriving at the Baniyas refinery on the eastern coast – which has a production capacity of 126 thousand barrels per day, most of them from Iran, that is, an average of 100 thousand barrels per day.
As for the center – specifically the Homs refinery – its production capacity is 120 thousand barrels per day, and it refines Syrian oil from the areas west of the Euphrates in an amount estimated at 15 thousand barrels per day.
The Banias and Homs refineries cover about 70% of the country’s need for diesel and about 90% of the country’s need for gasoline.
Al Jazeera correspondent Montaser Abu Nabout from Damascus said that after the fall of the Assad regime, there was a state of chaos in all sectors, including the fuel sector and the food commodities sector.
The reporter added that there was a discrepancy in fuel prices from one station to another, which caused problems for the Syrian citizen, but fuel is now available in the Syrian capital, Damascus, and at all stations, unlike the situation before the fall of the Assad regime.
Al Jazeera’s correspondent pointed out that the demand for fuel has increased, and that quantities have become available as a result of the caretaker government bringing oil from northern Syria and recovering many oil wells.
The correspondent expected that the caretaker government would head to the Arab interior in order to fill the fuel shortage, in addition to calling on the United States to lift sanctions so as not to hinder the path of development and reconstruction.
Editing the daily withdrawal ceiling
Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Syria issued a circular directing all banking financial institutions operating in Syria to release the daily withdrawal ceiling from merchant accounts for implementing electronic payment operations.
According to a statement by the Central Bank of Syria, this measure falls within the framework of the bank’s strategy to promote and disseminate electronic payment services through licensed banks and payment companies and encourage the use of electronic payment channels.
A bulletin issued by the Central Bank reported that buying the dollar against the lira stopped today at a price of 14,650 Syrian pounds.
