The Israeli State Archives Department said on Friday that the company hosting its website was subjected to a cyber attack, which resulted in the deletion of much information, several days after Israel destroyed the central archive in the Gaza Strip.

The administration said on its website, “The company hosting the Israeli State Archive website was subjected to a cyber attack.”

She continued, “Unfortunately, the attack led to the disruption of services that enable searching the site and viewing archival materials.”

Delete a lot of data

In turn, the Hebrew Channel 12 reported that the general inquiries database had been hacked, and much information had been deleted from the site. She explained that “no classified materials were affected, and no classified materials were leaked.”

The channel quoted State Archivist Ruti Abramowitz as saying, “As part of the cyberattack, two hacks occurred. The first was a hack of a database containing details of the State Archives’ general investigations, and the second was a hack of a lot of information.”

Abramowitz added that according to the data we have, “information was compromised from 2020 onwards, which may now be in the hands of the attacker.”

She continued, “The database of applicants to the State Archives contains some information such as the applicant’s name, email address, sometimes phone number, and details of requesting archival materials. This information is submitted by applicants to the archive, and is retained for a certain period.”

While the archive website administration did not specify who was behind the hack, supporters of the Palestinian cause are targeting Israeli websites, whether from within Palestine or from various locations around the world.

Israel destroyed the “Central Archives” in Gaza

Israel demolished the “Central Archives” in the Gaza Strip as part of its ongoing war policy since October 7th.

Last November 29, Gaza City Mayor Yahya al-Sarraj indicated, in an interview with Anadolu Agency, that “targeting the central archive represents a major threat to the city, as it contains thousands of valuable historical documents for the community, dating back more than 150 years.” .

Since last October 7, the Israeli occupation army has been waging a violent war on the Gaza Strip, which, as of yesterday, Thursday, resulted in the death of 17,177 Palestinians and the injury of 46,000 others. It also led to massive destruction of infrastructure, and was described as an “unprecedented humanitarian disaster.” “, according to official Palestinian and UN sources.
