The exchange rate of the Syrian pound against the dollar increased today, Thursday, in the parallel market transactions in various Syrian cities, while the Central Bank of Syria continued to stabilize the exchange rate in official transactions.

  • The exchange rate of the Syrian pound in Damascus, Aleppo and Idlib increased to 9850 pounds from 10 thousand pounds when purchasing, and increased to 10 thousand pounds from 10 thousand and 150 pounds upon sale.
  • In Hasaka, the exchange rate of the lira increased to 10 thousand and 300 pounds from 10 thousand and 450 pounds when purchasing and to 10 thousand and 450 pounds from 10 thousand and 650 pounds upon sale.

The Central Bank of Syria continued to fix the exchange rate of the Syrian pound against the dollar in official transactions at 13 thousand and 200 pounds when purchasing, and 13 thousand and 332 pounds upon sale, according to the bulletin issued this morning.

Factors of influence on the exchange rate of the Syrian pound

  • The Canadian government announced yesterday, plans to reduce the sanctions imposed on Syria during the transitional period, and to provide new funding for humanitarian aid with 84 million Canadian dollars ($ 58.4 million).
  • Britain deleted 24 Syrian entities last week, from the list of sanctions, including the central bank, other banks and oil companies, and these entities are no longer subject to the freezing of assets.
  • The European Union has suspended a package of sanctions imposed on Syria, some of which are related to energy, banks, transportation and reconstruction.
  • The US sanctions temporarily lifted Syria to open the door to transactions with government institutions and energy transactions, and allowed the transfer of personal funds to the country, including through the Central Bank of Syria.
  • The signing of Syrian President Ahmed al -Shara and the leader of what is known as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is an agreement stipulating joining the Syrian state, and this contributes to achieving stability in eastern Syria.
  • The number of employees in the country decreased after the demobilization of a large number of fictitious employees, and the previous regime’s army and its police, two sides that have acquired the greatest amount of government exchange.
  • Syria receives a new shipment of the local currency printed in Russia, last week, with expectations that more will reach the future, in a new indication of improving relations between Moscow and the new rulers of Syria.
