An American real estate company wants to build a 581 meter high tower in Oklahoma City, which would make it the tallest structure in the United States and the fifth tallest in the world.

The Matteson Capitol company initially wanted their building, which includes homes, stores, a hotel and restaurants, to measure 533 meters, but changed its mind in order to produce the tallest tower in the United States, reports the Oklahoma City Free Press.

“This symbolic height honors the year that Oklahoma was admitted as the 46th U.S. state,” Matteson Capitol wrote in a statement.

The interior area of the tower is approximately five million square feet.

A public observatory is also planned on the upper floors of the building.

However, it is not yet certain that the latter will see the light of day.

A zoning change is necessary for its construction.

The Oklahoma City City Council will have to decide whether or not to accept this rezoning proposal.
