Yesterday evening, Wednesday, two areas were announced at Hamad International Airport in the Qatari capital, Doha, to complete the expansion project that started in 2018, and contributes to raising the airport’s capacity to more than 65 million passengers annually.
This achievement highlights the global position of the airport, as its role is not limited to being one of the most prominent international aviation centers, but also enhances Doha’s position as a global airline center.
The opening of the two new regions “Concourse” “D” and “E” comes within a huge expansion project that reflects the commitment of the State of Qatar to develop the infrastructure and enhance its position in the international aviation sector.
The final stage of the expansion has been completed, which is the culmination of several years of planning and development at Hamad International Airport, in a complementary move, as the “Orthard” internal park was opened in 2022, a tropical park of 6 thousand square meters.
Improving passenger experience
The expansion – which the airport has witnessed – embodies the superior travel experience for travelers by providing modern technologies and advanced facilities, which contributes to facilitating trips and improving operational efficiency, and the two new regions at the airport integrate with the current travelers building to form an important addition to the modern gates and facilities network that keeps pace with accelerated growth in the global travel movement.
With the opening of these two regions, the total area of the airport increased to 842 thousand square meters, an increase of 14%, with the addition of 17 new gates to become the total number of boarding gates to the plane 62 gates, as this addition enhances the connection of flights and supports the flow of operational operations, which contributes to reducing dependence on buses to transport passengers.

“The Hamad International Airport exceeded the limits of being a gateway to travel, to become an essential element in supporting the growth of the State of Qatar and enhancing its association with the world, we have been proud to complete the expansion project before the specified date, which reflects our commitment to operating excellence and our strategic plans,” said Badr Mohamed Al -Meir, CEO of Qatar Airways Group, Badr Mohamed El -Mir, during the press conference to announce the completion of the airport expansion.
Al -Meir added that the expansion aims to meet the increasing travel needs and enhance Qatar’s position as a leading aviation center, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
Trade and modern facilities area
The expansion aims to improve the experience of travelers by providing a variety of facilities, including more than 10 new stores in the free market, as well as food and drink outlets in the two new regions.
Hamad Airport is now an integrated destination for shopping and dining, allowing travelers a comfortable and enjoyable experience as they pass through it.
The Hamad Airport administration is also keen to enhance sustainability, as the two regions were designed to meet the requirements of the “GS SAS” certificate for construction and design, in addition to obtaining the golden “LED” certificate, and the expansion includes innovative solutions in the field of energy and water management, which contributes to achieving global sustainability goals.
Airport Officer, Hamad Ali Al -Khater, said that the airport administration’s interest “focuses on achieving operational excellence that is in line with the levels of current demand and future growth rates.”
Al -Khater added that the opening of the two regions “D” and “E” represents a prominent mark on the path of enhancing our absorptive capabilities and supporting operational efficiency.
On the other hand, Hamad International Airport pays special attention to providing a comprehensive environment for travelers, as the two new regions have been provided with advanced technologies that contribute to accelerating the procedures for boarding the plane, such as self -systems for the rise of passengers, as well as providing auditory devices for help, and barriers free of obstacles to ensure the convenience of all travelers.
