European Union Trade Commissioner, Marus Sivkovic, said Monday that the bloc is seeking to reach a fair agreement on customs definitions with the United States, adding that it requires “a great joint effort.”

“I am currently in Washington, DC … to seize the 90 -day deadline to reach a joint solution to the unjustified customs duties,” said Sevkovic on the “X” website after his meeting with US Minister of Trade Howard Lootnick and American commercial envoy Jameson Jarir in Washington.

He said that the European Union “is still positive and ready to reach a fair agreement, including the reciprocity of the same through our presentation of customs duties of zero in exchange for zero on industrial goods and work on non -customs restrictions.”

“Achieving this will require a great common effort on both sides,” he added.

Commentary response

The European Commission announced on Monday that the European Union’s response to the customs duties imposed by Donald Trump was suspended until July 14 to give an opportunity to negotiate with the US President.

Washington and Brussels have been in commercial confrontations for weeks between fees and responding to them, after Trump launched a trade war from which his country’s close partners were not spared.

The 27 European Union countries approved their first measures, and imposed anti -American fees such as motorcycles, soy and poultry, and these strict definitions came in response to customs duties imposed by Washington on steel and aluminum imports.
