The Government of the Central Bank of Syria, Maysa Sabreen, said in statements to Reuters on Thursday that she had resigned, less than three months after she temporarily assumed her position.
A Syrian official and source of the financial sector in Syria said that it is scheduled to be appointed as a substitute for Maysa Sabreen as soon as the formation of the new government is completed in the coming days.
The new Syrian administration appointed the former deputy governor of the bank, Maysa Sabreen, as the governor of the Central Bank of Syria at the end of last December, to be the first woman to lead the Foundation in its history that extends over more than 70 years, to replace Mohamed Essam Hazimah, who was appointed by the deposed President Bashar al -Assad as the governor of the central bank in 2021.
Before her new position, Sabreen held the position of First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, since October 2018.
Maysa Sabreen was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Damascus Securities Market, represented by the Central Bank, before she assumed her new position. It has a professional experience in more than 15 years in the financial and banking field.
She obtained a leave and a master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Damascus, in addition to a legal accountant certificate, which qualified her to assume prominent leadership positions, and she held the position of Director of the Government Commission Directorate to banks, and she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Damascus Securities Market, before she assumed her last position.
