The investigation of New York Times revealing the presence of a parasitic worm in the brain of White House candidate Robert Kennedy Jr is “a low blow,” protests analyst Luc Lavoie.

The latter even sees a parallel with the strategies used by former Republican President Richard Nixon during the Watergate scandal in 1972.

Indeed, before the controversy broke out, Nixon’s teams were able to get their hands on the psychiatric files of Thomas Eagleton, the running mate of George McGovern, Democratic candidate in the 1972 presidential election, which had catastrophic consequences. on his campaign.

“It said that he had undergone electroshock treatments in the 1960s to combat a nervous breakdown,” explained Luc Lavoie on the show The Joust. “A few weeks later, Eagleton had resigned.”

“This is truly a low blow for Robert Kennedy Jr. What does it mean (to know that), right now?” he added.

However, according to Yasmine Abdelfadel, these revelations are relevant since they attack an important argument launched by the independent candidate during his campaign.

“At 70, he presents himself as a young person who has all his faculties, and he denounces the cognitive faculties of both Donald Trump and Joe Biden,” she retorted. The revelations that were made today “damage the credibility of Robert Kennedy Jrbecause we see that he has real problems for which he has been treated.

The former co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire, Amir Khadir, believes that the state of health of candidates in the American elections is of public interest. However, he believes that the collection of this information should be regulated.

“There is still a relevance for the public to be informed in good time about the health and, in this sense, the cognitive capacities of those they elect,” he clarified. “Now, I would be in a bad position to say ‘what’ is the best option between (sharing this) information of public interest and respect for privacy.”

“When you want to reach the highest position, there must be a mechanism in which the public finds its benefit,” he said.
