The ambassador, the governor and the “porn star”: Donald Trump and his troubles

Women have monopolized political attention this week in the United States. Particularly in Donald Trump’s entourage. No matter how much he made fun of them, wanted to discredit them or simply ignored them, day after day, they came back to haunt him.

Starting with Stormy Daniels, the porn actress, whose story of a one-night stand is single-handedly responsible for the weakening of Trump’s presidential campaign.

You had to see him and hear him complaining morning and evening, entering and leaving court, that he should be everywhere else in the country addressing voters rather than sitting in a courtroom to grasp all his rage at being, because of her, only a simple citizen before the courts.

HAUNTED BY A GHOST RIVAL

Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, has not campaigned for the Republican Party nomination since March 6. Yet two months later, she garnered more than one in five votes in the Indiana primary last Tuesday.

The one that Trump himself appointed ambassador to the UN still resists supporting her former boss. As she says she wants to continue to play a role within the Republican Party, her rallying should come sometime before the party’s convention in mid-July.

Meanwhile, it exposes a huge flaw in Trump’s road to the White House. Haley persists, even though he is no longer fighting, to receive the support of tens of thousands of voters from one state to another: almost 20% of the votes in Arizona, that is to say 110,966 votes ; 76,841 votes in Wisconsin; 77,902 in Georgia.

These are states that Joe Biden won by fractions of a percentage: 0.63% in Wisconsin; 0.3% in Arizona; 0.23% in Georgia.

Trump’s team is convinced that not all of Nikki Haley’s supporters will line up behind Joe Biden. Certainly not all. But the Democratic candidate does not need half of this vote of rejection of his opponent: seeing the thin gaps of 2020, one in five will be enough.

Donald Trump continues to ignore Haley and his voters. It’s another nightmare that risks haunting him on the night of the presidential election.
