The singer announced on September 10 on social media her intention to vote for current Vice President Kamala Harris in the US presidential election in November.
The pop star urged her fans to do the same and shared a personalized URL that directed people to vote.gov, where they could register to vote on November 5.
According to NBC News, the General Services Administration, which controls the voter registration site that Taylor Swift shared with her fans, recorded a whopping 337,826 visitors on the afternoon of September 11.
By comparison, vote.gov was averaging 30,000 visits per day in the week before Swift’s post, according to CBS News.
In her message of support for the Democratic candidate, the singer said: “I am voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to defend. I believe she is a stable and gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I have done my research and I have made my choice. It is up to you to do your research and it is up to you to make your choice. I also want to say, especially to first-time voters: remember that in order to vote, you must be registered to vote!”
In November, American voters will have to choose between Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump to succeed Joe Biden as president.
