The identity of the individual arrested and questioned by the police was not confirmed by the authorities during their press briefing early Sunday evening.
However, several American media outlets, including CNN, NBC and the New York Post, report that police sources have confirmed that the man is Ryan Wesley Routh, a 58-year-old man.
The latter is said to be a self-employed person who builds affordable homes in Hawaii, CNN reports.
The American media also reports that the suspect posted comments referring to the attempted assassination of Donald Trump that occurred last July.
The 50-year-old also tagged President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in another post, inviting them to visit those injured at the rally where a bullet grazed the former US president’s ear.

In another post on X in April, the man tagged President Joe Biden’s account and wrote that his election campaign should have a slogan “something like KADAF: Keep America democratic and free (keep America democratic and free). Trump’s should be MASA: make Americans slaves again master (make Americans slaves),” CNN reports.
The suspect has yet to be formally charged. Authorities have not confirmed what charges may be brought against the detained individual.
