(Washington) An African-American Democratic representative held up a sign reading “Black people are not monkeys” before being expelled, as Donald Trump began his State of the Union address on Tuesday evening at the Capitol.

Texas Democratic Rep. Al Green stood directly across from Donald Trump when he unfurled the sign before being escorted out of Congress, where chants of “USA, USA, USA!” rang out. “.

The sign was likely a reference to a racist video shared this month by Donald Trump depicting former President Barack Obama as an ape.

Al Green had already been expelled from Congress a year ago after shouting his opposition to Donald Trump in the same context
