Lava fountains gushed out of the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii (United States) on Sunday during its 42nd eruption.

According to the National Weather Service, the plume from this eruption reached 10 kilometers above sea level.
Kilauea – which is one of the most active volcanoes in the world – has remained in eruption almost continuously since 1983. It is one of the six active volcanoes in Hawaii, including Mauna Loa, the largest in the world.
Although smaller, Kilauea is more active and is a popular tourist site for its spectacular lava eruptions.
Scientists have noted that Kilauea has experienced intermittent eruptions since December 23, 2024.
