“I wish I had this kind of power on my social networks, but apparently only Mr. Trump has this superpower,” the collaborator ironically mentions during the segment Stéphan Bureau’s point of view on the 10 p.m. bulletin.
Last night, the president-elect dropped a bombshell on Truth Social, saying he intended to raise tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods imported into the United States to 25%.
“I think that it is first and foremost a political game that drives Mr. Trump,” says the analyst.
And this announcement created a wave of panic among Canadian prime ministers, who took the threat very seriously.
“Justin Trudeau called him a few minutes later. Mr. Trump took the call. Prime Minister Legault said that it was very serious, even dangerous for Quebec, that we were risking a lot, recalls Mr. Bureau. There is a meeting that will take place between the provincial premiers and Mr. Trudeau. So, with two messages on social networks, he made everyone move, including the Mexicans, who chose not to let themselves be too intimidated and to say in their own way that they could respond through the mouth of their commercial canons by imposing customs duties in turn.”
