The Hawker Beechcraft BE-36 landed Monday on Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of Atlanta, due to an engine problem.
“We lost our engine on takeoff from Gainesville,” pilot Thomas Rogers told WAGA-TV. “We tried to glide back, we followed all the instructions, but we realized we weren’t going to make it given the distance that separated us from the airport. We then landed on the road. »
The plane hit three cars, said Capt. Kevin Holbrook of the Gainesville police. Two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries, he added.
“The fact that they were able to land among hundreds of vehicles and only hit three, without hitting any power lines, is quite remarkable,” Mr. Holbrook said, noting that the road is one of the main arteries in northeast Georgia.
